In response to a question from an inquisitive believer, a wise spiritual leader responded, “The purpose of religion is to tune our hearts to God’s song.” This metaphor guides my thoughts as I journey through my week and as I endeavor to live into the fullness of life that God intends for me.

It’s easy to get stuck in the mire of daily work and family obligations, to lose sight of our goals and aspirations and forget the melody of God’s song.

I’m not going to tell you that God wants your wallet to get big and fat, but I am going to tell you that God intends for all creation to live fully and abundantly, just as Jesus tells us in John 10.

Religion needs to address how we live between Sundays, how we balance work, family and leisure, how we respond to the world around us and how we keep our hearts tuned in a world of competing voices.
